Druid is an open source1 data store designed for real-time exploratory analytics on large data sets . The system combines a column-oriented storage layout , a distributed , shared-nothing architecture , and an advanced indexing structure to allow for the arbitrary exploration of billion-row tables with sub-second latencies.

A technique we call resource bricolage that improves database performance in heterogeneous environments . We formalize the problem of minimizing workload execution time and view it as an opti-mizationproblem , and then we employ linear programming to obtain a recommended data partitioning scheme.
